Dear Friends from everywhere in the world!
Two decades of the Herbert Kern Memorial Tournament (18 issues with that name and two before) have been an incredible exciting, but also demanding time for us. We had lots of fun, but also lots of work and pressure, which did not pass us quite without a trace.
More than 5000 players from more than 250 clubs coming from all over Germany, the Czech Republic and Romania participated in our event and made it the biggest team tournament in South Germany. This deserves our greatest thanks to all of these players.
We are happy and proud of having been able to provide, in the name of the TV Rehau and the City of Rehau, a sports and social event that proved useful to so many people. Starting with a one-day men's regional league competition of 64 particpiants in 1995, in the end our "baby" had grown five times as big.
In the past year however we had to encounter the narrow margin between good and bad times. On one hand, we sensationally equalized our 11 year old all-time record of players, on the other hand we had to face a tragic occurrence in the venue, which had a more or less happy end but caused many thoughts for us how to proceed in 2015. Moreover, one of the two heads of this tournament himself suffered severe health problems during the 2014 event, which lasted for a not so short time afterwards.
The TV Rehau table tennis section itself is currently undergoing a certain change as well. Some of our most reliable assisstants, whom we owe almost all of the success, will not be available any more for an incalculable period of time.
Finish it when you are having the best time
Such tells a saying in Germany. Table tennis, one of the world's fairest games, has brought together women, men, boys and girls, from the lowest local level up to the state leagues, from Rehau to Bremen, from Munich via Berlin to romanian Medias, and of course our partner cities As, Oelsnitz and many other neighbours and friends, in Rehau Sports Centre. A peaceful celebration of the ties of friendship in a sports meeting - how can you ask for more?
For all these reasons, we have decided not to continue the tournament for a while, so that it will not lose its value through the restrictions we now have to deal with. For the time being, the year 2014 will be the closing year of the Herbert Kern Tournament. Never say never - but for now we hope that you keep our tournament in good memory and say goodbye to you with one big Thank You.

These thanks are of course also going to our team, headed by the irreplaceable and inestimably valuable Jürgen Strunz, as well as to the representatives of the City of Rehau, having in first place Mr. Mayor Michael Abraham and his predicessor Edgar Pöpel, who have been supporting us for twenty years far more than we could have asked for. The same, we thank all our sponsors out of politics and economy for their kind support and faith. In the name of all our team and all players, we will forever cherish the 2012 Honorary Prize of Sports by the City of Rehau, which we have beed awarded. It is not our prize alone - it goes to all of you, because it has been your tournament!
